Cross-pollination between music, the visual arts, mass communication, design and architecture

Descrizione:

In the two decades from the early Sixties to the end of the Seventies, Florence was also overwhelmed by the centripetal force of the political and social challenges and experiences a period marked by great cultural vitality as well as by strong contradictions. These are the years in which at Palazzo Strozzi the International Graphic Art Biennial Exhibition began, as well as new production centers such as the Centro Proposte by Lara Vinca Masini - dedicated to neo-concrete and kinetic art, electronic music and architecture - the Tèchne Center, founded by Eugenio Miccini, and the publishing house Centro Di. Despite the dramatic events of the 1966 flood, the city experienced a period characterized by the research for a new language that is pragmatic and communicative. Such new language is concerned with the community and the problems relating to feminism and homophobia and it is also critical of consumer society and war. During the years when in Venice Pop Art triumphs (1964, 1966) and in Genoa Germano Celant introduces Arte Povera (1967), in Florence, Visual Poetry began (1963). The first Italian postgraduate course in electronic music was set up  in 1965 and the radical architects took their first steps in 1966.
